The Viking Ship Museum

The Viking Ship Museum

The Vikings sailed (roamed) and dominated Northern Europe for almost 200 years. The unique construction of their longships enabled them to sail not only across the North Sea to England, but also up Russian rivers to the Black Sea, Constantinople. Even more daringly, they became the first Europeans to reach the American continent.
The Viking Ship Museum contains 3 nearly fully intact ancient Viking ships and the museum’s display also includes sledges, beds, a horse cart, wood carving, tent components, buckets and other grave goods that were considered necessary when a person, a chieftain or a priestess journeyed to the ‘other world’.
We learn about the Vikings, the 2 women buried in the Oseberg Ship in 834, the artefacts, tool and domestic utensils.
The tour can be combined with a visit to the Norsk Folkemuseum, 10 minutes´ walk away.
